Warlock Void 3.0 PvE Builds

Updated: Dec 17, 2022

Updated for the Season of Plunder, the Voidlock is back and currently our favorite subclass for Warlocks. We have some great combinations for builds that are a blast to play and effective in most PvE content.

The subclass 3.0 system brought reworked subclasses for each class and also added new buff and debuffs to play around with. Knowing what each means is important as it will shape our builds from here on out.

Buff Keywords:

  • Devour: Feast on energy of your defeated foes. Final blows restore you to full health, grant grenade energy, and extend Devour.

  • Invisibility: Vanish from sight and do not appear on radar. Performing offensive actions will end invisibility.

  • Void Overshield: You are armored with a protective barrier of Void Light. Reduces damage taken from combatants.

Debuff Keywords:

  • Suppressed: The target is taken out of any active abilities and cannot activate any abilities or movement modes while Suppression persists. Afflicted combatants cannot fire their weapons.

  • Volatile: The target is afflicted with unstable Void energy and will explode upon taking additional damage.

  • Weaken: The target takes increased damage and has their movement speed slowed. Afflicted combatants have difficulty firing accurately.

Void 3.0 has opened up some great builds for Warlocks. Combining a solid list of exotic weapons and armor to the new aspects and abilities has given some wonderful loadouts to try. In our opinion, Void 3.0 is the most fun and capable subclass for Warlocks in this season. Here are our favorite builds:

Devouring Vortex

Voidlocks are capable of providing their own heal on ability final blows with the Devour buff on top of their healing rift which feels great with the majority of void weapons. Mix in a couple of grenade mods and rift ability regeneration and the cycle of self-healing and grenades will not stop!

  • Subclass: Voidwalker - Nova Bomb: Cataclysm

  • Class Ability: Healing Rift

  • Movement Ability: Burst Glide

  • Melee: Pocket Singularity

  • Grenade: Vortex Grenade

  • Aspects: Feed the Void and Child of the Old Gods

  • Fragments: Echo of Persistence, Echo of Remnants, Echo of Undermining, and Echo of Instability

  • Exotic Armor: Nezarec's Sin

  • Ideal Stats: 10 Resilience, 10 Recovery, then Discipline

  • Exotic Weapon Choices: Witherhoard, Deathbringer, Osteo Striga are all fun choices though our all-time favorite weapon is the Witherhoard for its area of effect damage over time.

  • Legendary Weapon Choices: The Title with Classy Contender perk, though it is no longer attainable until the next Guardian Games.

  • We also have a lot of fun with Funnelweb rolled with Frenzy and Subsistence perks as it just feels great. Other recommendations include any kinetic with the Osmosis perk for even more void damage after throwing a grenade, The Enigma with Impulse Amplifier and Enhanced Frenzy or Unrelenting and finally, Falling Guillotine with Relentless Strikes and Whirlwind Blade

  • Mods: Harmonic Siphon, Kinetic Siphon, Taking Charge, High-Energy Fire, Bomber, and Firepower x3

Necrolock

One of the most satisfying builds we have been using, the Necrolock is a beast at add clear. Combining the Necrotic Grips exotic arms with the Osteo Striga primary, The Enigma, and The Other Half heavy creates a terrifying close-range monster!

  • Subclass: Voidwalker - Nova Bomb: Cataclysm

  • Class Ability: Healing Rift

  • Movement Ability: Burst Glide

  • Melee: Pocket Singularity

  • Grenade: Axion Bolt Grenade

  • Aspects: Feed the Void and Child of the Old Gods

  • Fragments: Echo of Persistence, Remnants, Undermining, and Instability like above

  • Exotic Armor: Necrotic Grip

  • Ideal Stats: 10 Resilience, 10 Recovery, then Discipline

  • Exotic Weapon: Osteo Striga for the synergy with Necrotic Grip

  • Legendary Weapons: The Enigma with Impulse Amplifier and Frenzy or Unrelenting and The Other Half with Repulsor Brace

  • Mods: Harmonic Siphon x2, Font of Might, Momentum Transfer, Elemental Ordnance, Seeking Wells, Better Already, Insulation, Well of Tenacity, and Utility Kickstart x2

With the Necrolock, we are trying to infect all combatants with spreading poison. We do this by using our melee, Pocket Singularity, hitting targets with The Enigma melee, or hitting targets with Osteo Striga. All will cause the poison damage over time to start and if a target is defeated while infected, they will spread the poison to others.

Getting our melee damage to start working will require us to be in close-proximity and sometimes that is not possible without protection. This is where our slew of mods and perks come in handy. Starting with Echo of Undermining, we will throw our Axion Bolt grenade and weaken multiple enemies in the process. Next, we will close the gap and defeat weakened targets with The Other Half. This activates our perk, Repulsor Brace which will give us an Overshield that is enhanced by Echo of Persistence.

At this point, Devour should be active as well, leading us to be able to tank any onslaught of enemies. While we continue to defeat enemies with Void damage, our wells will drop and this will give us another damage reduction buff for a short time. Mix in the production of Orbs of Power and Better Already so that our health will instantly begin to regenerate each time we pick up an orb as well as reduce our class ability cooldown with Insulation. Top it all off with our healing rift and we are nearly invincible.

We also have to mention the combination of green and purple explosions is beautiful!

RuinousVerse

Another build in our Void 3.0 Warlock PvE guide includes the fan favorite Contraverse Hold mixed with an underutilized exotic weapon, Ruinous Effigy. Right now, Contraverse Hold is in a great spot even after multiple nerfs. Combining multiple mods focused on grenade regeneration will give us an infinite number of grenades and allow for some fun with Ruinous Effigy.

  • Subclass: Voidwalker - Nova Bomb: Vortex

  • Class Ability: Healing Rift

  • Movement Ability: Burst Glide

  • Melee: Pocket Singularity

  • Grenade: Axion Bolt Grenade

  • Aspects: Feed the Void and Chaos Accelerant

  • Fragments: Echo of Remnants, Expulsion, and Instability

  • Exotic Armor: Contraverse Hold

  • Ideal Stats: 10 Resilience and 10 Recovery (though it hardly matters here)

  • Exotic Weapon: Ruinous Effigy

  • Legendary Weapons: We will hardly be using any weapons besides Ruinous Effigy because our time will be consumed with throwing grenades!

  • Mods: Harmonic Siphon x2 (we like orbs), Font of Might, Bountiful Wells, Elemental Ordnance, Innervation, Grenade Kickstart, Bomber, and Explosive Wellmaker

Our RuinousVerse build focuses almost entirely on grenade generation. You know the saying almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades? Yeah, well it applies here as using Axion Bolt makes it so that accuracy does not matter as long as we are close, the seeking bolts will do the rest. Charging with Contraverse Hold will give us another seeker and upon grenade hit, will generate grenade ability instantly. Activating our grenade also returns more grenade ability thanks to the Grenade Kickstart perk.

When we get kills with our grenades, we will generate Void and Solar wells with our Bountiful Wells, Explosive Wellmaker, and Elemental Ordnance mods. This will pretty much guarantee that our grenade ability is fully recharged every single time we toss a charged grenade. Due to our Feed the Void aspect, we will also constantly have Devour activated and be nearly unkillable.

The true fun comes when adding in Ruinous Effigy as it is a trace rifle and basically means point and watch things explode with our Echo of Instability perk, Volatile Rounds. Each grenade kill gives our Void weapons Volatile Rounds which cause enemies to explode when defeated. We also are using Echo of Expulsion so enemies will also explode on grenade, melee, and Nova Bomb kills.

This build is a lot of fun in playlist game modes especially Ketchcrash (which is basically just a race to kill the most enemies since there are hardly enough for a 6-man team), Wellspring, and yes, even Gambit.

Telesto

Telesto returns in this build with all of the focus on enhancing void weapon and grenade damage. Trying to keep up with all of the crazy that Telesto has caused over the years as well as the fun changes Bungie has added to celebrate the craziness and bugs has helped us create a fun build to utilize with our favorite buggy gun.

  • Subclass: Voidwalker - Nova Bomb: Cataclysm

  • Class Ability: Empowering Rift

  • Movement Ability: Burst Glide

  • Melee: Pocket Singularity

  • Grenade: Vortex Grenade

  • Aspects: Chaos Accelerant and Child of the Old Gods

  • Fragments: Echo of Starvation, Remnants, and Instability

  • Exotic Armor: Verity's Brow

  • Ideal Stats: 10 Discipline then Resilience (focused on grenade regen)

  • Exotic Weapon: TELESTO TELESTO TELESTO TELESTO

  • Legendary Weapons: You dare use any other weapon besides Telesto?! (but honestly, The Other Half works well here)

  • Mods: Harmonic Siphon, Fusion Rifle Ammo Finder, Momentum Transfer, Innervation, Recuperation, Elemental Light, Font of Might, Bountiful Wells, Elemental Ordnance, and Explosive Wellmaker
